Maternal Advocacy and How It Could Help You

There is much information to learn about pregnancy as a new mom. We aim to be maternal advocates and support expecting mothers through every stage of pregnancy. This blog will discuss precisely what maternal advocacy is and how it aims to help expecting parents.

What is Maternal Advocacy?

Maternal advocacy is dedicated to supporting and improving mothers’ healthcare throughout their pregnancy. As advocates, we provide access to resources like healthcare and prenatal and post-partum education. We want all mothers to be able to make informed decisions about the care they want and need.

What are the Goals of Maternal Advocacy?

Maternal advocacy has quite a few goals. Overall, we aim to ensure that all mothers have the healthiest journey possible and set them up for success.

1. Improved Health Outcomes for Mothers

Studies are showing that over 60% of childbirth-related deaths are easily preventable. This number is concerning but provides maternal advocates with an idea of how we can help expecting mothers. We can bring that number down if we can provide access to care, ensure our care is excellent, and pay attention to detail. Much of the work we can do to ensure an expectant mother’s health takes place before birth.

By providing quality prenatal care and monitoring a mother’s health, we are successfully fighting half the battle for her success. This attention to care often prevents a mother from experiencing a medical emergency and increases the likelihood of a natural birth.

2. Improved Health Outcomes for Newborns

Supporting maternal health can support the health of newborns. Studies have shown that keeping the mother healthy during pregnancy and birth is less likely to result in infant loss. Every pregnancy is different, and no two mothers are the same, but creating excellent health outcomes for the mother is especially important for doing the same for her child!

3. Promoting Education on Prenatal and Postpartum Health

Access to pre- and post-natal education helps empower mothers to take charge of their health and their children. It is helpful for mothers to know any signs they should contact their obstetrician about. Overall, the more they know about their health and the risks, the better their health outcomes can be.

4. Increasing Health Care Access for All Mothers

MyCHN aims to provide affordable healthcare to everyone who needs it. As maternal advocates, we know the importance of having access to healthcare regardless of financial or insurance status. By providing healthcare to expecting mothers, we give them the resources they need for success. We aim to create more positive health outcomes for mothers everywhere, starting with MyCHN.
