You have carried the most important thing you have ever created for nine months. You have dealt with different side effects and saw your body do things you could never have imagined. Your bundle of joy has finally arrived. You’re officially a mom! Now what?
If you’re asking yourself this question, you’re not alone. MyCHN has you covered! We have compiled a list of 5 tips for the first three months of your baby’s life.
He's Tiny, but He Sure Can Eat!
Your baby may have just made his debut to the world, but he’s more than pretty hungry already!
1. Breastfeeding
Doctors recommend that you don’t delay breastfeeding. Instead, if you choose to breastfeed, you can start almost immediately. Studies show that breastfeeding usually works better if you begin within an hour of delivery.
During the first few weeks, it’s recommended to nurse your baby whenever he is hungry. However, if you try to schedule nursing too early, it can affect your milk supply.
It is crucial that your baby correctly latches when nursing. First, you can position your baby on his side so that his stomach is in contact with yours. Next, you can encourage him to nurse by gently putting your nipple and areola toward his mouth. This will promote a deep latch.
2. Dress Her ProperlyÂ
Newborn babies cannot regulate their body temperature until they are six months old. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that your baby is dressed carefully. Parents.com recommends that you dress her in the same amount of clothes that you wear.
3. Limit VisitorsÂ
You may want to limit visitors for the first few days or even weeks. Babies are active after birth; this is an excellent time for you and your partner to bond with your baby. Also, your voice will be familiar to your baby. Look in your baby’s eyes and talk to her. She may find your voice soothing!
4. Talk to Her!Â
Babies and young children learn through their parents. What you say to your baby will lay down the groundwork for positive cognitive development. You can sing, read a book, ask your baby questions, and even carry a regular conversation if you feel called to do so.
5. Don’t bathe Him too often.Â
It sounds counterintuitive, but experts do not recommend bathing your baby every day. One to two times a week should be enough. Spot cleaning your baby’s groin, mouth, neck, and anywhere that gets dirty daily will keep him clean. On the other hand, thoroughly washing your baby too often can lead to dry skin or eczema.
Bottom Line:
A new baby is probably the most significant adjustment that you will ever make in your life. Of course, there are many new things that you must learn as you go. But, like anything, the more you do it, the better you will become at it. There is a saying that goes, “parents aren’t born. They are made.”
Luckily, your baby won’t hold any of your early mistakes against you!
