My Community Health Network Receives two grant awards from Methodist Hospital Community Benefits Program

Alvin, Texas, January 24th, 2022 — My Community Health Network (MYCHN) is thrilled to announce that we received two grant awards from the Methodist Hospital Community Benefits Program! MYCHN received a donation of $76,250 for the 2022 grant year. This donation will provide salary support for two nursing staff.

This support from the Methodist Hospital Community Benefits Program will allow CHN to offset the costs of diabetic medications and insulins for low-income, uninsured (unfunded) patients with diabetes. All medications will be purchased through CHN’s Class A Pharmacy. Unfortunately, Santyl wound ointment is not available through the Class A pharmacy. However, cost savings will cover the $50 first-time copay purchase of the medication as part of the manufacturer’s prescription assistance programs.

CHN is pleased to announce that the Methodist Hospital Board of Directors also awarded CHN a Mental Health Innovation award for the 2022 grant year. The $100,000 award partly funds salary support of a psychiatric nurse practitioner and two therapists to provide same-day assessments, treatment and referrals of behavioral health services either within CHN or externally to collaborative partners.

The addition of the Mental Health Innovation funded staff will allow our behavioral health stabilization center (BHSC) team to provide services seven days a week. This includes weekdays, evening hours to 6 pm, and extended weekend hours to 5 pm on Saturday (face-to-face) at Scarsdale Family Care located in Southeast Harris County, and virtual visits on Sunday until 5 pm.

This additional support will allow CHN to increase and fortify our support of individuals in acute crisis and individuals with a substance use disorder seeking Medication Addiction Treatment for alcohol, opioids, and tobacco. Furthermore, this funding will allow MYCHN to serve those discharged from the hospital or released from the criminal justice who may run out of medications before seeing a community provider.

CHN will use the Mental Health Innovation Award to execute our goal of preventing further ER admissions due to untreated mental health and substance use disorders.

“Community Health Network is thankful for the support received by the Methodist Hospital Community Benefits Program. These funds will greatly assist access to care and help in assuring patients get the care they deserve,” said Mark Young, Community Health Network’s Chief Executive Officer.
