National Health Center Week: What You Need to Know?

National Community Health Centers are pivotal in making healthcare accessible and ensuring that those in low-income communities, who are uninsured or underinsured, are able to afford and access nearby care. The reason they exist is to ensure that no one is left behind, and no community is without the opportunity to improve their health.

This blog will discuss National Health Center Week and how we help the community.

The History and Purpose of Community Health Centers

In 1965, doctors and patients alike noticed a lack of health care availability in rural and underserved areas. The people in these areas were susceptible to more health issues due to lack of access to care they deserved but could not find or afford. People deserved care no matter their socioeconomic status, and these doctors and government partners were determined to make that happen.

The goal is simple: serve the underserved and improve community health, one patient at a time.

How Health Centers Help Their Community

Community Health Centers are meant to support public health. Essentially, our function is to help ensure that everyone has access to health care to prevent inequity but also to allow our communities to flourish. Public health is a very important issue, as ensuring that whole communities are healthy means that the greater population is healthier and happier. Positive results in public health can be an indicator that a place or country is supporting and caring for their citizens properly.

The Meaning Behind the Theme

The theme behind this week is celebrating the past, present, and future of community health centers. As it is the 60-year celebration, it is important that we provide insight on just how far we have come and how far we will go. Additionally, each day of the week is meant to bring awareness to the different roles that make up community health centers. We are employers, providers, and partners.
