Questions and Answers from Houston Happens: Ft. Dr. Yvette Poindexter:
With the world going back to normal, how important is for women to schedule a well-woman’s exam even if they feel healthy?
If you’re not scheduling an annual well-woman exam, you’re missing out on opportunities to identify health conditions like cancer in their earliest stages when symptoms may be mild, but treatment can be easiest and most effective. A well-woman exam helps you build a trusting relationship with your provider. This can make a difference over the years as your needs change and issues arise, especially if you must discuss intimate and potentially uncomfortable topics about physical or emotional conditions.
If you are pregnant, how do you go about selecting an OB doctor?
Even if you’re feeling well and your pregnancy is free of complications, regular prenatal visits can make a difference in supporting a smooth birth and healthy baby. At Community Health Network, we have a program that will give you and your baby the best possible start towards health.
Is there a wait time to see a women’s health provider or Obstetric provider at My CHN?
We have same-day and next-day appointments for our women services, and we have multiple sites for your convenience. The earlier you call in the day the more we’re able to work with you to try to get you in when you want to be seen. You can contact us at 281-824-1480 or visit us at www.mychn.org
What sets My CHN apart from other organizations when it comes to prenatal services?
We are like a “one-stop shop.” In these times where we are all so busy, we have brought everything to you. You don’t have to run all around town. We provide complete integrated care for women, from birth control to baby delivery. We have complete care including dental care, pharmacy, primary care, mental health, pediatric care, and more. We have in-office visits and telehealth services. We are Patient-centered and accept all insurances, including Medicaid/Medicare and sliding scale.
What about for the women/expecting mother that don’t have insurance? Medical care can be expensive, but expecting mothers want to find the best care for themselves and for their babies.
- We work with women, expecting mothers, and families to take care of their health and babies health. There are in-house programs they may qualify for, and they may not have to pay for all services or pay at a discounted price. We also have an in-house pharmacy, so medications tend to be cheaper than at other retail pharmacies.
