A patient arrived at MyCHN League City with one of her eyes covered by a bandana and wearing sunglasses. She was scheduled to meet with Karina regarding her eligibility appointment for assistance. During the discussion, Karina learned that the patient had been diagnosed with eye cancer and required radiation treatment. The patient expressed her hope of receiving aid in applying for the gold card, as she needed $1,500 to initiate her treatment and did not have the necessary funds. Karina took the initiative and contacted several hospitals to inquire about available grants and discovered that Memorial Hermann offered a grant that the patient could utilize. The patient was deeply moved and began to cry; Karina recognized her distress and kindly adjusted the office atmosphere by turning off the lights. The patient departed with a sense of relief, having found a way to start her treatment, as she was particularly concerned about her health due to her responsibilities caring for her ten-year-old daughter. We were happy to witness the patient leave with a considerably less burden on her shoulders. This was a great example of how Karina always goes above and beyond to help every patient. She gets the answers for them, and when Karina is unsure what to do, she figures it out.
