COVID-19 Vaccine Side Effects

By: Mariela Salgado

There are two COVID-19 vaccines in the market at the moment, the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine. Both will help eradicate this pandemic and bring us back to normality. There are a few inquiries regarding which vaccine to take and what are the side effects of each. We have decided to break it down for you. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), both COVID-19 Vaccines might give you a few side effects:

  • The arm receiving the vaccine might experience pain or swelling
  • The rest of your body might feel feverish, chills, tired, and you might have a slight headache

Here are a few helpful tips:

  • You can exercise or move the arm that received the vaccine
  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Take some Tylenol or Advil
  • Contact your primary care provider if you are experiencing these side effects for more than a few days

We advise you to report your side effects on V-safe, which will send private text and surveys to your phone to monitor how you are feeling. This system has been used before with other vaccines and helps in the overall safety of the public.

What are the benefits of getting the COVID-19 vaccine?

  • You will be protected after getting your second dosage
  • Others will be protected
  • There will be fewer infections, cases, hospitalizations, and fewer deaths

Overall, the side effects of the COVID vaccine will be far less severe than a COVID infection. The side effects will only affect the person that receives the vaccine for a short time, but an infection will affect others since it spreads, and it will continue to wreak havoc in your life and community.
