Alvin Police Department and MyCHN Launch “Aligned” Program a Collaborative Mental Health Response Program Press Release

Alvin, TX, May 1st, 2026 —  Alvin Police Department (APD) and MyCHN are proud to announce the launch of Aligned, a new community-focused initiative designed to connect individuals experiencing mental health crises with appropriate behavioral health services rather than placing them into the jail system when incarceration is not the appropriate solution.

The Aligned program was conceived by Chief Robert Lee, Chief of the Alvin Police Department, and developed in close collaboration with MyCHN’s Crisis and Behavioral Health teams to create a more effective response for individuals experiencing mental health crises. Law enforcement officers are often the first to respond to situations involving individuals experiencing mental health challenges. In many cases, these individuals do not require incarceration — they require care.

Aligned creates a structured pathway for eligible individuals to be referred directly to MyCHN’s crisis response and behavioral health services, where they can receive professional assessment, stabilization support, and ongoing mental health treatment.

“As Chief of Police I watched officers respond day after day to calls which involved those who were in mental health crisis or simply needed assistance. Many of these calls were to the same individuals repeatedly. The issue was not how officers responded to these calls; they do a great job of dealing with the 'what’s happening now'. The issue was what happened after the call was completed. The answer was, sadly is, ‘nothing’. There was no follow-up after the crisis was resolved or any care beyond what was immediately required at the time the police responded. There was no system in place to help those who needed it, no community support network, nothing. Our partnering with MyCHN and their Crisis and Behavioral Health teams has created that community support network. The Aligned program focuses on what happens after the police leave and offers much needed follow-up support to our mental health community.”

How the Program Works

Through Aligned, APD officers can identify individuals whose primary need is mental health intervention rather than incarceration. When appropriate, those individuals may be referred to MyCHN’s Crisis and Behavioral Health team or the Gulf Coast Center for immediate assessment and connection to services.

MyCHN provides:

  • Crisis intervention services
  • Behavioral health assessments
  • Therapy and psychiatric services
  • Care coordination and follow-up support

“Our goal is simple. We want to meet people where they are and provide timely, compassionate care. By working alongside APD, we are able to intervene earlier, reduce repeat crises, and support individuals and families before situations escalate.”

A Community-Focused Vision

In addition to officer referrals, the Aligned program will also provide the community with a direct pathway to seek help when they encounter someone who may be experiencing a mental health crisis. Rather than immediately calling 911 for non-emergency situations, residents are encouraged to contact the program by emailing aligned@alvin.gov or visiting the program’s landing page for guidance and support options. More details about how and when to use this resource will be available at https://mychn.org/aligned-program-bridging-the-gap/.

This initiative is now available. Both organizations emphasize that the program is designed to support individuals and families while maintaining public safety.
